MLAB 1211: Urinalysis and Body Fluids

- Dates: August 25, 2025 to October 19, 2025
- Length of Course: 8 Weeks
An introduction to the study of urine and body fluid analysis. Includes the anatomy and physiology of the kidney, physical, chemical and microscopic examination of urine, cerebrospinal fluid, and other body fluids as well as quality control, quality assurance and safety.
By the end of this course, the student should be able to:
- apply principles of safety, quality assurance, and quality control;
- demonstrate compliance with OSHA safety regulations for blood –borne pathogens;
- explain principles of each test included in a routine urinalysis and other body fluid analyses;
- perform procedures of tests to include sources of error and clinical significance or results;
- evaluate laboratory test outcomes;
- correlate test results with patient condition(s);
- demonstrate improvement in the effective traits of organizational skills, work habits, attitude, interpersonal skills, and problem-solving ability; and
- promote respect and understanding of allied health professionals through renewed understanding of the clinical laboratory technician’s role as a member of the allied health care team.
