Welcome to the Dental Hygiene Program

A dental hygienist is a licensed health care professional. Dental hygiene is the science and practice of the recognition, treatment, and prevention of oral diseases. Graduates of the Dental Hygiene Program are eligible to work in any number of health care settings such as private dental offices, schools, and nursing homes. The Dental Hygiene Program at Austin Community College is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation and has been granted the accreditation status of “approval without reporting requirements.” The next program site visit by the Commission is scheduled to occur in 2027. The Commission is a specialized accrediting body recognized by the United States Department of Education. Students, faculty, constituent dental societies, state boards of dentistry, patients, and other interested parties may submit an appropriate, signed, formal complaint to the Commission on Dental Accreditation regarding any Commission accredited program. The Commission on Dental Accreditation will review complaints that relate to a program’s compliance with the accreditation standards. The Commission, upon request, will take every reasonable precaution to prevent the identity of the complainant from being revealed to the program; however, the Commission cannot guarantee the confidentiality of the complainant.     The ranking formula for the Dental Hygiene Program has changed. To view the new Admissions Ranking Worksheet, click here. A minimum score of 58.7 is required on both the Reading and English Language Usage sections of the TEAS exam. Please review the Application Process page for more details.
