MLAB 1335: Immunology & Serology

An introduction to the theory and application of basic immunology, including the immune response, principles of antigen-antibody reactions, and the principles of serological procedures.

By the end of this course, the student should be able to:

  • Discuss the principles involved in the immune response.
  • Describe the structure, function, and characteristics of immunoglobulins.
  • Describe the principles of and perform serological tests.
  • Evaluate laboratory test outcomes and relate serology tests to the disease or condition associated with each test; and evaluate the suitability of clinical specimens.
