A study of the taxonomy, morphology, and pathogenesis of human parasites and fungi, including the practical application of laboratory procedures, quality control, quality assurance, and safety.

Course Objectives

Upon successful completion of this course, the student should be able to:

Examine and determine suitability of specimens for examination.
Prepare preserved specimens for analysis.
Determine the presence of and identify human parasites and fungal forms.
Demonstrate an understanding of the life cycle and pathogenicity of parasites and fungi.

Unit 1 - Introduction to Parasitology

Unit 3 - Cestodes

Unit 5 - Intestinal Protozoa

Unit 6 - Blood & Tissue Protozoa

Laboratory	Review the Blood & Tissue Lab video and the Malaria Lab video.
Assignment	Watch the Blood & Tissue / Malaria Lecture videos. While reviewing videos, follow along with the correlating Lecture Guide. Complete assignment for Unit 6 (under Assignment tab in Blackboard). Review the Malaria Speciation Chart. Respond to weekly questions or case studies.
