A study of the taxonomy, morphology, and pathogenesis of human parasites and fungi, including the practical application of laboratory procedures, quality control, quality assurance, and safety.

Course Objectives

Upon successful completion of this course, the student should be able to:

Examine and determine suitability of specimens for examination.
Prepare preserved specimens for analysis.
Determine the presence of and identify human parasites and fungal forms.
Demonstrate an understanding of the life cycle and pathogenicity of parasites and fungi.

Medical Parasitology: A Self-Instructional Text. Leventhal, Ruth, and Cheadle, Russell F., F.A. Davis. ISBN-13: 9780803625433-0 or ISBN-10: 0-8036-0788-1.

Available in the ACC bookstore. Older editions of this book are comparable and can be substituted for the latest edition upon request.

Unit 1 - Introduction to Parasitology

Assignment	Read the Syllabus and complete the Statement of Understanding Quiz in Blackboard. Watch the Introduction to Parasitology video. While reviewing video, follow along with the correlating Lecture Guide. Complete assignment for Unit 1 (under Assignment tab in Blackboard). Respond to emailed questions.

Unit 2 - Nematodes

Textbook	Read Chapter 2 in text.
Laboratory	Review the Nematodes Lab video
Assignment	Watch the Nematodes Lecture videos. While reviewing videos, follow along with the correlating Lecture Guide. Complete assignment for Unit 2 (under Assignment tab in Blackboard). Respond to weekly questions or case studies.
