THE SENATE STANDARD – ISSUE 10

Dear Faculty Colleagues,

Senate Standard #10 is here! Take a peek to learn more about all that is going on.

Senate Meetings / Minutes / Agendas

AGENDA IN DEVELOPMENT – 11/8/19 Senate Meeting – noon to 2pm HLC 2101 – The agenda for our next Senate meeting is in development. I plan to post the agenda in our next senate standard (or sooner!).

Provost Meeting – 10/29/19 – The Agenda for our meeting today with Provost Charles Cook has been posted on our website. If you want to know more about the issues Faculty Senate is bringing to administration, take a peek.

Current Action Items (These are reminders for things I’ve already sent out):

Review and comment on campus master planning [DUE – November 1, 2019] – At our most recent Senate meeting, Mike Midgley shared some details about the campus master planning process. He would like faculty to review the grid he is working on to outline which courses / degree plans will be housed at each campus. Examine the grid, and then send your comments / concerns to [email protected]  FINAL REMINDER

Newsworthy

Virtual Desktops for ACC – The Senate has been communicating with Neil Vickers about the possibility of moving away from workstations and instead using virtual desktop terminals to replace old computers. ACC is just beginning to look into this option, and is aware that it may not serve every employee or every lab. Administration is open to hearing from faculty about whether or not this option would be beneficial. I’ve been assured that we do not yet have a plan in place, and that any possible rollout is at least a year away. This gives us time to have good conversations about this option before any change is made. I’ll be in touch with more information when I have materials for faculty to review.

Shared Governance Improvement Efforts – The Senate is working with the Shared Governance Review Council to help facilitate better attendance/representation at our important shared governance council and committee meetings. We’ve asked to have all chairs add their members to their scheduled meetings on the google calendar. This way, members will have up-to-date information about meetings on their own calendars, rather than having to find that information on the various websites.

  • If you are a member of a shared governance council or committee, please check your google calendar for these invitations.
  • If you don’t get invitations to your meetings, please email me at [email protected] so I can facilitate getting you added.

Are you interested in seeing when our councils and committees meet? You can add this calendar to your google calendar, and then keep it checked so you always know when these important meetings are happening. (On your google calendar, scroll to other calendars, click the “+” then subscribe, then “Shared Governance Meeting Schedule”.)

New Email Address for Faculty Senate Officers – To ensure continuity from one senate year to the next, we’ve now created an email address to be shared by all officers of the senate. If you wish to email your Faculty Senate Officers all at once, please email [email protected].

Boots and Bats Basket – The Boots and Bats Gala will be on Saturday, November 2. Senate Treasurer, Beth Frye, worked hard to collect faculty donations and create a beautiful basket that will be raffled off to raise money for student scholarships. Take a peek at her handiwork, and your donations!
