THE SENATE STANDARD – ISSUE 4

Dear Faculty Colleagues,

Please take a peek at the most recent issue of the Senate Standard.

New Action Items:

  • PLEASE HELP! Boots and Bats Donations [deadline October 11] – The Senate has been invited to create a basket to be auctioned off at the Boots and Bats Silent Auction on November 2. Any money earned will go to supporting ACC Student Scholarships. Senate Treasurer Beth Frye has agreed to coordinate our efforts. If you’d like to donate an item for our basket or learn more about Boots and Bats, please read THIS LETTER from Beth.

Meetings / Minutes / Agendas

  • Our most recent senate meeting was 9/13/19 at noon – We’ll be posting the minutes as soon as we get them approved.
  • First Call for Agenda Items – Our next senate meeting will be 10/11/19 at noon – Please send any items you’d like added to our next agenda to one of your senators before our deadline of October 1. If you wish to be a part of this meeting, please join us in room 301 at HBC. All full-time faculty are welcome. Lunch and professional development credit will be provided.
  • Senate Calendar Updated – Our bylaws say that senate officers should have regular meetings with the president of the College. We also meet regularly with Provost Cook, who is the Faculty Senate Liaison to Dr. Rhodes.
    • We’ve just been given the dates of all of our meetings for the year with Dr. Rhodes. You can now see them on the SENATE CALENDAR (search for “Rhodes”). We will add our meetings with Dr. Cook when they are scheduled.

Newsworthy

  • Dr. Rhodes has shared some facilities updates with the leaders of the employee associations – Read his letter about Pinnacle and Highland Campuses HERE.
  • Tuition Reimbursement Opportunity – Applications open 9/23 and end 10/4. If you are interested, please review THIS LETTER from Cameron Keel.

Updates on Past Action Items:

  • Hiring Committee for Chief Diversity Officer – Each of the employee associations were asked to nominate three people to this committee, and told that one of their nominees would be selected. The Senate nominated Jack O’Grady, Terry Barksdale and Charlotte Gullick. We have just been informed that the association representatives who were selected to serve on this committee are:
    • Faculty: Jack O’Grady
    • Adjunct Faculty: Mary Gilmer
    • Prof Tech: Rene Renteria
    • Classified: Patricia Janysek
    • It turns out that Charlotte Gullick was selected to serve as well, as she was nominated by another group. This means we’ll have at least two full time faculty on this hiring committee. Our sincere thanks to all who volunteered.

I appreciate your reading this installment of the Senate Standard. I hope you are feeling informed and included in the work of your senate. Have a great week!

Best,
