Fairway 5K 2017 Trophies

Unique Trophies Awarded at Fairway 5K 2017

The Welding Technology and Jewelry Departments collaborated to produce the trophies for this year’s Fairway 5K.

Construction of the trophies was a collaborative effort between ACC’s Jewelry and Welding Technology Departments.

Master Jeweler and Adjunct Professor, Philippe Dewailly, hand engraved the text for the trophies onto 308 stainless steel, which was cut and polished by Welding Technologies, Frank Barak, and Marjie LaRowe, respectively.

The main bodies of the trophies were created from one inch thick mild steel which was forged using a 165 pound, self contained power hammer, by Haley Woodward and Troy DeFrates. Texture was then added using an oxy acetylene cutting torch.  The forged parts were welded together using the GMAW process and then brushed to clean the surface and add highlights.  The engraved plates were attached using bronze rivets.  Finally, the trophies were given a protective clear coat finish.
