July 2023 QEP Update

Monthly Summary

During July, various outreach activities were conducted to promote the digital fluency microcredentials. Collaborative efforts resulted in the creation of outreach materials and videos targeting English and Speech faculty. A presentation at an ACC Resource Fair was planned with the Army Future Command/Software Factory. Engagement with librarians and the Health Sciences Division Department Chairs provided insights into microcredentials. Collaboration with Foundation Communities was pursued to enhance digital literacy teaching. 

Microcredential development and refinement, especially in Word Processing, Photoshop, and Web Analytics, were a focus.

Data collection and surveys aimed at assessing skill levels were ongoing, with an emphasis on tracking milestones and student outcomes.

Fall session registration show positive enrollment numbers, with Spreadsheets and Data Management microcredentials proving popular.

Highlights

Outreach

  • Collaborated with C. Jason Vidrine and Susan Meigs to create two one-pagers for outreach to English and Speech faculty: 1) Introduction to Digital Fluency and 2) Intro to Being a Digital Navigator. A survey, created by Jason, will accompany the email.

  • Met with Vanessa Errico about participating in an ACC Resource Fair with the Army Future Command/Software Factory as presenters on August 11th, 2023
  • Met with the Librarians on July 7th to overview Microcredentials. 
  • Worked with Lindee Knowles on the third of a four series for developing a Social Media plan to target learners at ACC and industry partners
  • Held a Microcredential Information Session July 12th for 17 people Met which included Jessica Gonzalez from Foundation Communities, the new Digital Literacy Equity Office for Education Pathways. 
  • Working lunch with Jessica Gonzales on July 18th, to learn more about a 5-year grant Foundation Communities has received for the area of teaching Digital Literacy for their clientele. 
  • Met with the Health Sciences Division Department Chairs on July 14th for an Information Session with approximately ten in attendance.
  • Met with Josiah Spence on July 14th to discuss how the Introduction to Computing will assist his students with a lack of basic computing skills. Discussed building a mini-Microcredential of 10 to 12 hours that just includes basic computing skills. 
  • Met with Ascender on July 18th via Susan Meigs, Alejandra Polcik, Ann Pamela Fant-Saez, C. Jason Vidrine, Diana Gorostieta Martinez, Karina Hernandez, and Linda Smarzik. 
  • Met with Mario Aguilar on July 18th, to pilot a Microcredential in a ParaLegal course.
  • Disseminated the Summer Newsletter, “The Spark,”  to 500 recipients of faculty, students, and staff on July 18th. 
  • Designed and hung two large posters (8’ x 6’) at the South Austin campus in the display windows for on-going promotion. Build your Digital Fluency Skills and What To Do with Digital Fluency Skills. 
  • On July 25th, met with Charesse L. Evans, Senior Advisor for the US Patent and Trademark Office, Valencia Martin-Wallace, also from the US Patent and Trademark Office; Luis Rincon, Co-Founder & Chief Strategy Officer of Acadeum, and Chris Davis, representing DigiTex to explore the possibilities of providing microcredentials for a new IP education course sharing consortium.
  • Provided a Digital Navigator Training to the following adjunct faculty from Adult Ed on August 2nd, Mieca Johnson, David Garcia, Jennifer Mansourm Kendra Perales, Nicholas Starkweather, and Nicholas Bryant. 
  • Info session to be held on August 3rd for 35 signups on Eventbrite consisting of students, faculty, and staff.

Microcredentials

  • First training of two for LuAnn Preston to become a Digital Navigator for Fall, 2023 in which she will offer the Word Processing Microcredential within her English course for High School students.
  • Provided a drill down presentation for Microcredentials and on being a Digital Navigator for: Mariposa McGriffy, David Garcia, Jennifer Mansour, Kendra Perales, Mieca Johnson, Nicholas Bryant, and Vaaron Juarez  from Adult Ed.
  • Continued refinement of five microcredentials to support requests from Digital Navigators. 
  • Started building Web Analytics Microcredential in Brightspace Leap to be offered in the Fall 
  • Started building a curriculum for the Photoshop Microcredential.  
  • Revised and enhanced assignments on Spreadsheets and Presentation software to ensure clear and concise instructions for students.
  • Aligned capstone project rubrics for Spreadsheet microcredentials with the revised project tasks to ensure accurate assessment and evaluation.
  • Conducted thorough grading and delivered comprehensive feedback to students enrolled in Spreadsheets (session 001 and 002) and Presentation software microcredentials, supporting their learning and growth.
  • Brightspace Leap workshop, for DFI Core staff to examine organization setup and understand how to configure Brightspace Learning Repository to meet identified organization needs.
  • Continued build of the Photoshop Microcredential. Web Analytics and HTML/CSS are being input into Brightspace Leap. 
  • Ongoing improvement of the current summer pilots for Word Processing, Spreadsheets, Introduction to Computers, Presentation Software, and Data Management.
  • ACC Grow Student has completed the assets for an interactive, learning video for Introduction to Computing. 
  • Six Summer microcredentials will complete on August 7th.

Data 

  • Summer registration of 156 opt-in and co-curricular learners into eight sections. 
  • Continued refinement of three surveys in collaboration with OIRA targeted to students, department chairs, and faculty. Refinement of two surveys (pre-assessment and post-assessment)  to be embedded into each microcredential that will ascertain skill level for both professional and technical competencies. 
  • Continuing the build of an Excel spreadsheet for data capture of milestones, core indicators, student learning outcomes, and more. 
  • Ongoing gathering and build of spreadsheet to include Milestones, Performance Indicators, and Student Learning Outcomes.
  • Total Fall registration to date including Opt-In and Co-curricular enrollments is 257 (33% filled) with a potential of 772.
  • Fall registration has 109 opt-in learners into 18 sections. The enrollment to date for Fall Session One is 87 or 39% filled. The enrollment to date for Fall Session Two is 22 or approximately 10% filled. 
  • The most popular microcredentials are Spreadsheets and Data Management followed by Web Builder.
