October 2023 QEP Update

Monthly Summary

Throughout October, the team was highly engaged in various collaborations and initiatives. Meetings were held with mulitiple departments and individuals, such as Janie Kang from the Fashion Department to explore the introduction of microcredentials, Vanessa Errico to strategize on Military Spouse recruitment, and Dr. Lillian Huerta to discuss integrating microcredentials into courses.

In addition, the division coordinated the “Digital Fluency Skills!” session during Career Week and held a  successful end-of-year 1  “I’m Here for It” event at the Make It Center, during which the first Microcertificate was awarded.

The team worked on finalizing preparations for the second Fall session beginning October 16th, refining training modules, creating orientation videos.

In terms of data, enrollments for Opt-In and Co-curricular programs showcased strong numbers, with promising projections indicating anticipated milestone achievements well ahead of schedule.

Highlights

Outreach

  • Met with Janie Kang with the Fashion Department to discuss offering Microcredentials.
  • Met with Vanessa Errico to review the process for the recruitment of Military Spouses with a January start date. 
  • Scheduled a virtual event, “Digital Fluency Skills!” during Career Week with Trish Welch.
  • Met with Erica Breedlove and Prisca Baker about the payment/hiring process for Digital Navigators.
  • Met with Avance about offering the first hybrid Microcredentials at the South Austin Campus in January. 
  • Tabled at the South Austin Registration event on October 17th and 18th. 
  • Met with Dr. Lillian Huerta to discuss offering microcredentials in her courses on October 18th.
  • Held “I’m Here for It” event with 25 people in attendance at the Make It Center on October 26th.
  • Met with Military Families to continue building the pilot process on October 27th.

Microcredentials 

  • Continued tweaking all microcredentials for the launch date of October 16th that includes multiple updates.
  • Continued training in Brightspace Leap for Rubrics, Escape Rooms, and how to add Interactive Media.
  • Rebuilt three videos for orientation: Email Notification Video, Navigation Video, Start Here Video. 
  • Awarded our first Microcertificate, “Fundamentals of Computer Skills for Job Readiness,” which is equivalent to three credit hours within our Computer Science and Information Technology program.
  • Began planning for transition from Brightspace Leap to Blackboard.

Data

    • The Opt-In and Co-curricular options have enrollments of 633 for Fall 2023 (75% filled) with a potential of 807. Co-curricular has 273 enrollments while the Opt-in has 360 enrollments for Fall 2023. Combined with Summer 2023 of 250 enrollments, total enrollment is 883.
    • Currently, for the opt-in sessions, there are 53 enrollments for the Spring 2024 sessions which makes a total 930 enrolllments since inception. The goal for 2022 to August 31st, 2024 is 1410. It is anticipated that this milestone will be easily met.
