Sept. 2023 QEP Update

Monthly Summary

In September, there were significant outreach efforts in the field of digital education, including meetings with various educational institutions and individuals. Notable events included discussions with Janie Kang from the Fashion Institute about becoming a Digital Navigator, meetings with representatives from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board to explore grant opportunities for Digital Fluency Microcredentials, and participation in the Digital Learning Summit.

The month also saw activities such as mentoring sessions with Ascender mentors, information sessions, and event planning for “I’m Here for It!” on October 26th.

In the realm of microcredentials, extensive preparations were made for their launch, including tweaking content and piloting new microcredentials like Photoshop for Web and Web Analytics. Data showed promising enrollments for Fall 2023, with 75% of opt-in and co-curricular options filled, totaling 883 enrollments when combined with Summer 2023 numbers.

Highlights

Outreach

  • Met with Janie Kang, Fashion Institute to discuss becoming a Digital Navigator on September 5th (co-curricular).
  • Met with Dr. Sheri Ranis and Dr. Tina Jackson with the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board to discuss Digital Fluency Microcredentials, a grant possibility, and the Co-Board’s stance on microcredentials on September 6th.
  • Met with Michael Finney, with Business, Government, and Technical Communications about becoming a Digital Navigator on September 7th (co-curricular).
  • Met with Georgia Branch to discuss obtaining Blackboard instances for the Microcredentials on September 7th.
  • Participated in the Digital Learning Summit, with the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board held online September 12th and 13th.
  • Panelist on the Closing Panel – Micro-Credentials Ecosystem Discussion on September 13th with over 150 participants in attendance.
  • Karina Hernandez, Susan Meigs, and Jason Vidrine met with Ascender mentors in one-hour sessions on September 15th and 18th at Highland, Riverside, Hays, and South Austin campuses.
  • Info Session held on September 13th with approximately ten participants.
  • Met with Jessica Gonzalez to give her a tour of the South Austin Campus for collaborating with her for Foundation Communities on September 18th
  • Met with personnel with the Make It Center to plan an event to be held on October 26th.
  • Tabled at the General Assembly to recruit Digital Navigators and Students, Faculty, Staff into the second session for the Fall.
  • Created a new rack card for Digital Navigators.
  • Planned an event, “I’m Here for It!” to be held on October 26th.

Microcredentials 

  • Continued tweaking of all microcredentials for the launch date of the opt-in’s on September 11th that includes updates for adaptive release, grading strategy, tweaking content from previous feedback, utilizing look of achievements, etc.
  • Piloted new microcredentials: Photoshop for Web, HTML/CSS, and Web Analytics.
  • Continued tweaking of all microcredentials for the launch date of October 16th which includes multiple updates.
  • Completed Intake Request form for three new badges for microcredentials in Suitable: Photoshop for Web, HTML/CSS, and Web Analytics.
  • Completed Intake Request form for two Microcertificates to be added in Suitable.

Data

  • The Opt-In and Co-curricular options have enrollments of 633 for Fall 2023 (75% filled) with a potential of 807. Co-curricular has 273 enrollments while the Opt-in has 360 enrollments for Fall 2023. Combined with Summer 2023 of 250 enrollments, total enrollment is 883.
