The BIOL 2401 and BIOL 1308 classes are paired together by the Biology Department and taught in an integrated format. Since these courses are integrated, students receive one combined grade for both courses rather than separate grades for each. Students do not mix and match their own BIOL 2401 and BIOL 1308 classes. Instead, they must take the paired sections simultaneously during a single semester, with a curriculum designed to align the content of both courses and support their success in completing them.
Students are not allowed to register for only BIOL 2401 or only BIOL 1308 if it is a paired section. This rule applies to all students to ensure consistency and fairness. The paired classes have a waitlist for only the BIOL 2401 section because the registration system requires students to register for both classes in the pair. If you see “Waitlist” instead of “Register” in the registration system for BIOL 2401, click “Waitlist” to be added. During the waitlist process, the paired BIOL 1308 section may show “Register,” but students cannot register unless they are first in line for the BIOL 2401 waitlist.
If a student withdraws from one paired section, they must also withdraw from the other section. The enrollment system should prompt students to drop both sections, however, the system does not drop both sections automatically.
Since these paired classes are popular, they tend to fill up quickly. Students should consider reaching out to advisors if they need assistance finding a different course with more availability for the upcoming semester.
The paired courses are offered during the Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters, class schedules vary between campuses and semesters. These courses are designed to support students who face challenges that might prevent them from meeting program requirements. They are particularly beneficial for students who want to complete BIOL 1308 without delaying their progress in BIOL 2401. Please note that the Biology Department cannot overload any face-to-face sections due to lab safety regulations.
If the registration system states that you need departmental approval, it means you have not selected paired classes from the provided list.
