New Certificates in Radiologic Technology

Overview

In 2021–22, a Limited Medical Radiology Technologist (LMRT) certificate program was developed within ACC’s Radiology Department. Graduates of the one-year LMRT certificate program are eligible to take the certification exam. Certified LMRTs from the ACC program gain entry-level employment opportunities in radiography, the first step of a career ladder to the Registered Technologist (Radiography) or R.T.(R) Associate of Applied Science degree and beyond.

Accomplishments

  • Implemented the new certificate program fall 2022 with an initial enrollment of 10 students.
  • To date, the LMRT program has had a retention rate of 60%. All six students are on the trajectory to complete the program AND bridge over to the A.A.S. program in fall 2023.
  • The department admitted six new LMRT students who will be joining the four from the previous year who are returning, for a total of 10 students beginning in fall 2023.

Impact

ACC’s mission is best served when we provide multiple entry points to high-demand, high-wage career paths. Students who are interested in health-related careers benefit from the LMRT entry-level certificate and future students will benefit from the Mammography entry-level pathway.

Next Steps

The Radiology Department is re-establishing the Mammography certificate program. Both new programs have been developed with input from the advisory committee and healthcare workforce industry partners. The Mammography Program will be launched in 2024. We are still waiting on the contract with Austin Radiological Association for the use of their space for the lab. Once this contract is executed we can begin offering the courses/program.
