RNSG 1341/1161 – Common Concepts of Adult Health (EVC)



Orientation

  • There is no formal orientation to this course for those students who have successfully completed RNSG 1413 and RNSG 1160.
  • The course syllabus, information about course requirements, and assignments will be available prior to the start of RNSG 1341 and RNSG 1161.

Class Schedule

  • When: Mondays and Wednesdays, 8 a.m. – 3:50 p.m.
  • Where: EVC Room 8362
  • Calendar: Level 1 EVC (PDF)

Skills Labs

  • When: Tuesdays, 8 a.m. – 10 a.m.
  • Where: EVC Skills Labs, EVC 8276 and EVC 8288
  • What to bring: Lab module information, lab kit, watch with second hand, and stethoscope.

Dosage Calculation Exam

  • When: Re-entry students entering in RNSG 1341/1161 will be required to take a Dosage Calculation Exam in the first week of the session.
  • Where: Date/time of the Dosage Calculation Exam to be determined.
  • Students who successfully passed RNSG 1413 in the current semester are exempt from the Dosage Calculation Exam for RNSG 1341.
  • Failure to pass the Dosage Calculation Exam on the first attempt will be managed according to the policy for Dosage Calculation Proficiency in the Student Handbook.

Level Mastery Skills Check-off

  • Re-entry students entering in RNSG 1341/1161 will be required to pass a Level 1 Mastery Skills Checks-off covering RNSG 1105 and 1413 skills. Students who successfully passed RNSG 1413 in the current semester are exempt from the re-entry Mastery Skills Check-off and Dosage Calculation Exam for RNSG 1341.
  • When & Where: Date/time of re-entry Mastery Skill Check-off to be determined.
  • You may be checked off on any 1105 skills and 1413 skills, including but not limited to: safety measures, isolation precautions, vital signs, medication administration, and enteral tubes. You must satisfactorily complete the assigned skills check-offs to continue in Level 1.
  • Failure to pass the Mastery Level Check-off on the first attempt will be managed according to the policy for Critical Skills Performance Mastery in the Student Handbook.

Course Mastery Skills Check-off

  • Mastery Skills Check-offs will cover Urinary Catheterization/Sterile Technique.
  • You must pass all check-offs satisfactorily to continue in the course.  Failure to pass the Mastery Level Check-off on the first attempt will be managed according to the policy for Critical Skill Performance Mastery in the Student Handbook.

Clinical Schedule

  • Students will remain in the same clinical group as in RNSG 1160 and clinical start/end times and sites will remain the same as those in the first 8 weeks. For students entering in the second 8 weeks, placement in a clinical group will be determined on the first day of the session.

Clinical Preparation

  • What to bring: Students are expected to have their ACC ID badge, ACC uniform with ACC Professional Nursing patch, and all required supplies for clinical.
  • Weekly clinical assignments will be at the discretion of each instructor. Amount of time needed for preparation will differ depending on the nature of the assignment.
