RNSG 1443/1360 – Complex Concepts of Adult Health (CEC)



Orientation

  • When: Tuesday, January 17, 2023 from 8:30 a.m. – 12 noon
  • Where: In person at CEC. Please see CEC reader board for room number.
  • Prior to orientation, upload a signed copy of the RNSG 1443 (Theory) and RNSG 1360 (Clinical) syllabus acknowledgement form to Blackboard.
  • Complete your Clinical Ticket. You must have this completed by the first day of class or you will be dropped from the class.

Class Schedule

  • When: Tuesdays from 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Some lecture times have been adjusted for content, please refer to the Google calendar for specific times.
  • Where: In person at CEC
  • Calendar:  Level 2 CEC (Google Calendar). Please note, scheduled events are subject to change. Your Level 2 CEC faculty will notify you via Blackboard and/or email if there are any major changes.

Skills Labs

  • When and where: See the calendar for dates, times, and locations.
  • What to bring: Lab kit, IV notes, IV drug book
  • What to wear: ACC scrubs, closed-toed shoes, and surgical mask

Dosage Calculation Exam

  • When: Tuesday, January 17, 2023 at 12:30 p.m. (after Orientation)
  • Where: CEC (see reader board for classroom location)
  • What to bring: You may use a simple calculator, pencil, and scratch paper. You may not use a smart device or cell phone as a calculator.
  • You will be required to take a Dosage Calculation Exam as part of Orientation. You must pass this exam with a minimum of 90% before you are allowed to administer medications in the clinical setting.

Level Mastery Skills Check-off

  • When: Wednesday, January 18, 2023 (you will be given the opportunity to choose your time slot)
  • Where: CEC (see reader board for room location)
  • What to bring: Your lab pack
  • The first comprehensive Mastery Skills Check-off will cover previously learned skills in Level 1. All students registered for Level 2 are required to be at the Mastery Skills Check-off. Students have up to three attempts to pass check-off; missing a check-off counts as an attempt. You must wear ACC teal scrubs for all check-offs.
  • You will be given a patient situation and will demonstrate the care you would provide using the equipment in your lab pack. You will be checked off on injections (IM or Sub Q) and catheterization (male or female indwelling Foley catheter).
  • You must successfully complete the assigned checkoff to continue in this course.
  • The ACC guidelines for skills can be found in the ACC Nursing Skills Checklists.

Clinical Schedule

The clinical groups, sites, times and days have not yet been finalized. Clinical assignment will be posted to Blackboard on Tuesday, January 10, 2023. Your clinical instructor will contact you with additional information regarding your clinical rotation, so check your ACC email account often. Please keep in mind that although you might sign up for a particular instructor for clinical, you may be assigned to a different clinical group. Clinical placements are assigned and not subject to change once posted.
