Orientation
- There is no formal orientation to this course for those students who have successfully completed the first 8 weeks of the semester.
- Information about course requirements and assignments will be available prior to the end of the first 8-week course (RNSG 1413).
- Students entering in the second 8 weeks will receive information from the HLC Level 1 coordinator prior to the start of the course, and will attend a short orientation session during the first week of the course.
Class Schedule
- When: Mondays, 8 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
- Where: Highland Campus (HLC) Room 1.2404
- Calendar: Level 1 HLC (Google Calendar)
Skills Labs
- When: Tuesdays, 8 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.
- Where: HLC Skills Lab
- What to bring: Lab module information, any color scrubs, closed toe shoes, hair pulled back, a watch with second hand, lab packs, stethoscope.
Dosage Calculation Exam
- Re-entry students entering in RNSG 1341/1161 will be required to take a Dosage Calculation Exam in the first week of the session.
- Where: Date/time of the Dosage Calculation Exam to be determined.
- Students who successfully passed RNSG 1413 in the current semester are exempt from the Dosage Calculation Exam for RNSG 1341.
- Failure to pass the Dosage Calculation Exam on the first attempt will be managed according to the policy for Dosage Calculation Proficiency in the Student Handbook.
Level Mastery Skills Check-off
- Re-entry students entering in RNSG 1341/1161, who have been out of the program for less than one year, will be required to attend a one-day in-person tutoring workshop, during the week prior to the start of RNSG 1341/1161. Failure to attend this workshop will result in being ineligible to attend RNSG 1341/1161 for that semester. Students who successfully passed RNSG 1413 in the current semester are exempt from the re-entry Mastery Skills Check-off and Dosage Calculation Exam for RNSG 1341.
- Re-entry students entering in RNSG 1341/1161, who have been out of the Professional Nursing program for one year or longer, will be required to pass a Level 1 Mastery Skills Checks-off covering RNSG 1105 and 1413 skills. Students who successfully passed RNSG 1413 in the current semester are exempt from the re-entry Mastery Skills Check-off and Dosage Calculation Exam for RNSG 1341.
- When & Where: Date/time of re-entry Mastery Skill Check-off to be determined.
- You may be checked off on any 1105 skills and 1413 skills, including but not limited to: safety measures, isolation precautions, vital signs, medication administration, and enteral tubes. You must satisfactorily complete the assigned skills check-offs to continue in Level 1.
- Failure to pass the Mastery Level Check-off on the first attempt will be managed according to the policy for Critical Skills Performance Mastery in the Student Handbook.
Course Mastery Skills Check-off
- Mastery Skills Check-offs will cover Urinary Catheterization/Sterile Technique.
- You must pass all check-offs satisfactorily to continue in the course. Failure to pass the Mastery Level Check-off on the first attempt will be managed according to the policy for Critical Skill Performance Mastery in the Student Handbook.
Clinical Orientation
- When: Students will be oriented to the on-site clinical as determined by the on-site clinical instructor. More information will be provided at Level One Orientation on Thursday, August 20, 2026.
- Orientation to simulation clinical will take place at the Highland Campus Health Sciences Simulation Center on Thursday, August 27th, 2026; times assigned by simulation clinical faculty. Attendance is mandatory.
- Orientation to onsite clinicals will take place at HLC on Wednesday, September 2nd OR Friday September 4th , depending on onsite clinical assignment. Rooms to be determined. Attendance is mandatory.
Clinical Schedule
- Students remain in the same clinical group as in RNSG 1160 and clinical start/end times and sites will remain the same as those in the first 8 weeks. For students entering in the second 8 weeks, placement in a clinical group will be determined on or before the first day of the session.
Clinical Preparation
- What to bring: Students are expected to have their ACC ID badge, uniform with ACC patch, and all required equipment prior to the first clinical day.
