RNSG 2402: Theory
- Orientation: Tuesday, May 31, 2022 at 8 a.m. Class will follow orientation. Students will be required to upload syllabus agreement into Blackboard.
- When: Mondays and Tuesdays, 8 – 11:40 a.m., with exams as scheduled on course calendar.
- Where: EVC Room TBD
- Calendar: Mobility Level 3 (Google Calendar)
- Dosage Calculation Exam: All students must take the Dosage Calculation Exam on May 31, 2022 (time TBD) in EVC Room 8307. You must successfully pass this exam to administer medications in the clinical setting. You will be given 3 attempts to pass.
- Required Texts: All previously required textbooks and the following: McKinney, E.S., James, S.R., Murray, S.S., Nelson, K.A., & Ashwill, J.W. (2018). Maternal Child Nursing (5th ed). St. Louis, MO: Elsevier and The Texas Nursing Practice Act.
- Mastery Skills Check-off: Scheduled the first week of class per the mobility calendar. All students must successfully complete the comprehensive Mastery Skills Check-off over previously learned skills: medication administration all routes (SQ, IM, IV push & piggyback, and proper calculation of infusions); catheterization; tracheostomy care and suctioning; central line dressing changes with lab draw; and document required. Each student will receive a patient situation and must successfully complete the Mastery Skills Check-off to continue in any RNSG course. You will be given 3 attempts to pass. Plan time to practice. Reference the Blackboard site for this course frequently for updates.
- Note: All students’ ADN Clinical Clearance ticket requirements must by completed by the first day of class.
RNSG 2263: Clinical
- The first day of clinical is during the first week of the course. Please see the clinical schedule in Blackboard for assigned clinical days. Students must complete 128 clinical hours. Clinical consists of 16 hours of clinical per week.
- Pediatric Rotation Schedule: 8- to 12-hour clinical days on either Wednesday, Thursday, or Saturday at Dell Children’s Medical Center with remaining hours virtual or simulation. See course calendar above for orientation and lab info. Students must have a current Ascension Seton Student ID badge the first day of the semester.
- Obstetric Rotation: 12-hour clinical days on either Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday at St. David’s Medical Center – Main, St. David’s NAMC, or Ascension Seton Medical Center Austin, remaining hours virtual. See course calendar above for orientation and lab info. Students going to Ascension Seton Medical Center Austin must have a current Ascension Seton Student ID badge on the first day of the semester.
- Medical Surgical Rotation (2 weeks): Consists of 32 hours of simulation at the EVC Nursing Skills Lab following the OB & Pedi clinical. See course calendar for simulation dates.
RNSG 2121: Professional Nursing Leadership and Management
- Important Dates: RNSG 2121 will meet synchronously from July 5 – August 8, 12:15 – 2:20 p.m.
- Recommendations for Success: Check Announcements in Blackboard frequently, at least several times a week. Adhere to all dates and required assignments. Begin preparing for NCLEX prior to final semester.
