RNSG 2402: Theory

  • Orientation: Tuesday, May 28, 2019, 8 a.m. – 12 noon (required)
  • When: Mon. and Tue. as scheduled on course calendar below.
  • Where: EVC Room 8123

  • Dosage Calculation Exam:  All students must take the Dosage Calculation Exam on May 28, 2019, starting promptly at 12 noon in the computer lab Room 8307. You must successfully pass this exam to administer medications in the clinical setting. You will be given 3 attempts to pass.
  • Required Texts: All previously required textbooks and the following: McKinney, E.S., James, S.R., Murray, S.S. Nelson, K.A., & Ashwill, J.W. (2013). Maternal Child Nursing (5th ed). St. Louis, MO Elsevier Saunders ISBN 978-0-323-40170-8 and The Texas Nursing Practice Act.
  • Mastery Skills Check-off: All students must successfully complete the comprehensive Mastery Skills Check-off over previously learned skills: medication administration all routes (SQ, IM, IV push & piggyback, and proper calculation of infusions); catheterization; tracheostomy care and suctioning; central line dressing changes with lab draw; and document required. Each student will receive a patient situation and must successfully complete the Mastery Skills Check-off to continue in any RNSG course. You will be given 3 attempts to pass. Please utilize the available open lab times for practice. Open lab time is available the week before the semester. Plan time to practice. Reference the Blackboard site for this course frequently for updates.
  • Note: All students must present an ADN Clinical Clearance ticket to the Level 3 Coordinator to enter the Mastery Skills Check-off scheduled for May 28, 2019 beginning promptly at 1 p.m. Failure to do so will result in withdrawal from the level.

RNSG 2263: Clinical

  • The first day of clinical is during the first week of the course. Please see the clinical schedule in Blackboard for assigned clinical days.
  • Pediatric Rotation Schedule: 12-hour clinical days on either Wed., Thu., or Fri. at Dell Children’s Medical Center. See course calendar above for orientation and lab info. Students must have a current Ascension Seton Student ID badge the first day of the semester.
  • Obstetric Rotation: 12-hour clinical days on either Wed. or Thu. at St. David’s Medical Center – Main, St. David’s NAMC, or Ascension Seton Medical Center – Main. See course calendar above for orientation and lab info. Students going to Ascension Seton Medical Center – Main must have a current Ascension Seton Student ID badge the first day of the semester.
  • Medical Surgical Rotation (2 weeks): July 24, 2019 – August 2, 2019, as designated on course calendar at the EVC Nursing Skills Lab. Clinical hours will be through simulation.

RNSG 2121: Professional Nursing Leadership and Management

  • Important Dates: RNSG 2121 will meet from 12:40 – 3:30 p.m. on Monday July 8, Monday July 15, Monday July 22, Monday July 29, and Monday August 5.
  • Recommendations for Success: Check Announcements in Blackboard frequently, at least several times a week. Keep email address in Blackboard current. Adhere to all dates and required assignments. Begin preparing for NCLEX prior to final semester.
